Tell the United States to Join the Treaty to Ban Landmines
Dear President Obama:
The United States should join the 1997 Mine Ban Treaty to help put an
end to antipersonnel landmines, which kill and maim civilians around the world.
The US has committed to no longer produce, export, or stockpile antipersonnel
landmines, and to no longer use them except in Korea.
To finally achieve a world without landmines, however, the US should become part
of the international treaty, which also requires mine clearance and assistance
to mine victims.
Mr. President, I urge that you immediately submit the Mine Ban Treaty to the Senate for its approval.
