We care about the workers who make the clothes and shoes we wear. Transparency about factories that manufacture your branded products helps workers and their advocates to alert your company to labor abuses they face in these factories. Companies like yours that say they are committed to workers’ rights should not expect workers to search and photograph brand labels to be able to inform you about labor abuses. Workers and their representatives should be able to reach out to you as quickly as possible when they experience workplace abuses. To enable this, we urge you to make publicly available an accessible and searchable list of all factories that make your branded products, aligned with the Transparency Pledge standard.
  
Thirty-nine companies have thus far committed to aligning with the Transparency Pledge standard. Many other companies publicly disclose at least the names and street addresses of factories, including most recently Amazon.

As more companies start disclosing their supplier factories list, there is need for all the data to be made easily available to workers and labor advocates in one place, which is easily accessible and searchable. To facilitate this, companies should also make the information disclosed machine-readable. By making your data easily accessible, searchable, and machine-readable, you also allow it to be displayed in places like the Open Apparel Registry. The Open Apparel Registry has a database of global garment factory information, collating disparate factory lists into one central, open-source map that is publicly available, searchable, and free of cost, enabling workers and others easy and quicker access to information.

As an ethical shopper, I am writing to ask that your company takes the following steps:

1. Commit to and implement the Transparency Pledge in 2020 by disclosing names, addresses, and other details of your supplier factories.

2. Begin tracing and publicly disclosing other parts of your supply chains, including mills and farms.

3. Align published factory lists with the Open Data Standard for the Apparel Sector and consider submitting the information to the Open Apparel Registry.
